Boat access only - we will greet you for a quick and scenic boat ride from Quadra Island and bring you to our beautiful location!

Check in/pickup time is 3:00pm - Checkout/boat departure is 11:00am. Boat passenger/liability form must be signed upon arrival.

Located on the north end of Read Island in Surge Narrows, BC. We have renovated the structure to meet quite a few modern luxuries. Enjoy waking up to the still sounds of nature, relax with a book on the outdoor deck, take nature hikes on trails built by the locals, straight from the backyard. Enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, or canoeing, included with your stay, right from the private beach.

The homestead is 900 sq. ft and accommodates four people comfortably. The main bedroom has a luxury king size bed, and the living space has a pull out couch with gel foam queen size mattress.

The suite has a spacious kitchen with a medium sized fridge and freezer and an oven. The kitchen is fully stocked with dinnerware, utensils and everything that you need for cooking. Stocked in the kitchen are spices/coffee/cream/sugar. We require that you bring all food during your stay. If you need more we can order, pickup and deliver to you, at an additional cost - cash or e-transfer. And of course, the water is safe to drink.

The bathroom has a flush toilet on a sensitive septic system and a stand up shower with on demand hot water. It is stocked with towels, shampoo/conditioner, soaps and toilet paper.

A large outdoor deck over looking the ocean with furniture, dining table, propane fire pit and barbecue was built in 2022 for you to enjoy. Smoking is allowed outside only and cigarette butts are to be handled responsibly.

We offer Starlink internet if you need to get in touch with the outside world.

We receive power primarily through solar panels with backup gas generator. We do not allow the use of hair dryers.

First aid products are stocked if needed.

We are huge animal lovers, but unfortunately we do not allow pets.

Accommodation is not wheelchair/ elderly accessible.

There are plenty of board games, books to read, art supplies and musical instruments for your entertainment

We live full time on the property in a separate house – far enough for your space and privacy, but not too far for anything that you may need! We are here to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible.

Things to do during your stay:

You will have access to our two kayaks, two paddle boards and canoe – all come with paddles and we supply life jackets, all of which are included in your stay.

We offer our guests scenic tours and fishing/prawning adventures, upon request and additional charge. An amazing way to get out and explore wildlife and waterfalls, to see the majestic mountains or catch your meal for the day! See brochure in the accommodation and message us to request. Cash or e-transfer only. You can purchase fishing license online and we can print on location. If you catch fish or prawns, we are happy to vacuum seal and store it during your stay.

Over the years our community has built hiking trails that are accessible from the backyard. The trails are moderate, well marked trails and make for a nice outing.

Read Island has a floating post office! You are more than welcome to check it out, it has books, t-shirts and postcards made by local artists for purchase with cash or e-transfer.

Another site to see is our local school – the school was reopened in 1992, that currently has ten kids, some from Read Island and others that travel from the outer islands. The school offers education to kids from Kindergarten to Grade Eight.

In 2022 members of the community built a pavilion where we can gather to socialize, have little events and meetings. The structure was named The Zone after the famous mountaineer and architect Rob Wood, who resides on Maurelle Island, BC.

The Bunkhouse next to the school was built in the 1970’s and has a community kitchen, seating area with books and dvd’s, and a bathroom. It was originally built so when kids from outer islands would travel to Read Island to go to school they would have a place to sleep – hence the name Bunkhouse.

On Wednesday’s starting in May of each year until the cold weather comes, a resident of Read Island cooks at The Seaweed Cafe, located beside the Post Office. A menu and prices are posted and people come down to eat and socialize. You are more than welcome to go down and enjoy some good food! - Cash only

There are yoga mats stored in the Homestead if you feel like doing some outdoor yoga on the deck overlooking the ocean, and there are plenty of board games and yard games to have fun with. If you simply feel like relaxing, there are more than enough books to keep you company!

We look forward to having you stay!
